Our friends at Bend the Arc: CU have asked for urgent (this weekend) action
Item taken from Facebook event.
Bend the Arc:CU has learned the House of Representatives is just a few signatures away from being able to force House Speaker Paul Ryan to begin debate on the full range of DACA proposals that got shut down earlier this year. Already, 196 members of Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, have signed, but our congressman, Rodney Davis, has not. This is despite the fact that he was one of one of 34 members of Congress to sign a December 7 letter to Ryan asking him to bring up DACA for a vote before the end of 2017.
On Friday, representatives of Bend the Arc:CU presented Davis’ Champaign office with the following letter, along with a copy of the Discharge Petition and the December 7 letter. Now we need you to call his office right now to demand that he add his name to the other 196 signatures. Yes, it’s a weekend. Let’s clog up the voicemail on all his office phones with this demand. He claims to want a solution to this pressing immigration problem. It’s time for him to prove it!

BEND THE ARC:CU
jewish action
May 18, 2018
Dear Mr. Davis,
The Champaign-Urbana chapter of Bend the Arc Jewish Action urges you to sign the Discharge Petition for consideration of the bill (H.R. 4760) to amend the immigration laws and the homeland security laws. We are surprised that you have not joined 196 other US Representatives in signing this petition, considering that you were a signatory of the December 5, 2017, letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan asking him to support passage of a permanent legislative solution for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients.
It is not too late. Please join your colleagues in signing this petition.
Respectfully,
Diane Ore, Chair
