Message from CU Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America

Hello, Gun Sense Champions!
This May, news of the terrible school shootings in Texas and Indiana and more gun violence in our own community left us all reeling– reminding us, yet again, how urgent the our work is. There’s no time to waste, and we will begin the month of June more determined than ever to make our community and our country safer. We will #KeepGoing, because we know that every time we show up, our movement and our message become stronger.

June 1 is National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Please join us to Turn Alma Orange. 12:30 pm 1409 W Green Street (this will only take about 20 minutes)

June 2 is Wear Orange. Please join us  for this family friendly event– honoring our local survivors of gun violence, showcasing local talent, and strengthening our community. 4-6 pm, Westside Park, ChampaignYou can still volunteer to help here.

June 5 is our Monthly Meeting. This summer, we will be meeting at the Champaign Public Library. 7:30 pm 200 W Green Street, Champaign

June 23 is our monthly tabling for Market at the Square. You can sign up to help here. 8am-12pm Urbana Lincoln Square

Much progress has been made in IL recently. SB 337, the new gun dealer licensing bill, has passed both the house and the senate. Now it will go back to Governor Rauner’s desk. We need to keep pressure on him to make sure he doesn’t veto this bipartisan bill. You can contact him here.

Locally, both Mayors Marlin and Feinen will be participating in our Wear Orange events! Please contact them and thank them for taking a stand on gun violence prevention.
