What’s on Your Ballot? Learn About the Election!

What’s on your ballot this November? It’s not a presidential election, so why does it even matter? What impact will your vote really have?

During News & Brews on Tuesday, October 9, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at Riggs Beer Company, we’re going to talk about the midterm elections in an educational, non-partisan way. Maybe you understand what the Governor does, but what about the Attorney General? Or your local County Clerk? How about the County Executive? Find out what “down-ballot” elected offices actually do and what they have to do with YOU. These local and state elected officials affect your everyday life, even if you don’t realize it. So, let’s talk about it!

Using the “Ballot Party” model—spearheaded by BallotReady.org and StateMatters.org—we’ll explore your local ballot to learn about lesser discussed elected offices and referendums; we’ll cover how to register to vote, where to vote, and why voting in the midterm elections is important; and we’ll also help you become a “Ballot Party” facilitator so that you can take the event model to your own family, friends, or broader community.

At Illinois Public Media, we believe getting informed can be fun, especially when we do it together. And, most importantly, there should be no surprises when it comes time to vote on November 6 (or before during early voting)! So join us for this community conversation on October 9 during the next News & Brews with Illinois Newsroom.

RSVPing to this event will enter you into our raffle for great public media prizes.
