Inaugural Symposium on Local Immigration Activism February 28

The Inaugural Symposium on Local Immigration Activism (ISLA) is a day-long series of panels, break-out sessions, and vibrant discussions that will be held on Thursday, February 28, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at the University YMCA, 1001. S. Wright St. The day will crystallize the dynamic collaborations involved in the cutting-edge scholarship with immigrant communities in the Champaign-Urbana area. The symposium draws on the expertise of immigrant community members, advocacy groups, students, and scholars. We plan to bring major figures in the Sanctuary movement and scholars and activists from the FIOB (Oaxacan Indigenous Binational Front) involved in the Latinx Indigenous rights movement in the US. Faculty and students of UIUC and Parkland College and the University Illinois seek connections with faith and community organizations to further collaborative research projects and advance social justice.
