Democracy in CU: Let’s Talk Solutions to Community Violence

Elevate our cities with your voice. Join your fellow CU residents for dinner and conversation about what local public officials should prioritize in order to decrease violence, particularly gun violence, in our communities and increase safety and equity. What does a safe community (psychologically, physically, emotionally, spiritually, etc) look like to you, and what answers do you need from local leadership about how to achieve it? Make sure your leadership knows your needs! And eat and talk with CU residents who love their cities as much as you. This is a non-partisan event.

The event is Thursday, March 14, 2019, 5:30 pm – 8 pm at 2400 W Bradley Ave, Champaign. It is hosted by: Illinois Newsroom, WILL Radio TV Online, Champaign County Voters Alliance, CU Trauma and Resiliency Initiative and League of Women Voters of Champaign County. The schedule is:

5:30-6:00: Dinner with your fellow community members
6:00-7:15: Guided small and large group discussions
7:15-8:00: Co-create a questionnaire for Champaign City Council and mayoral candidates in anticipation of the April 2 local elections. Illinois Public Media reporters will send the questionnaire to candidates and publish answers on our website and social media.
