Multiraciality in the Media

Join a discussion on how multiraciality is represented in media, and what role media plays in identity formation.  The event, hosted by Mixed Student Union and University of Illinois Women’s Resources Center, will be Wednesday, January 30, 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm, at the Women’s Resources Center, 616 E Green St Suite 202, Champaign, IL 61820, USA.. Questions to be considered:

  • Is the current representation of mixed people beneficial or harmful for us?
  • Does the media perpetuate a barrier between mixed and monoracial people, portraying us as vastly different groups?
  • Does the media alter how mixed-race individuals are seen based on gender or class?

You do not need to be multiracial to attend – everyone from all backgrounds is welcome.  Feel free to ask questions about the group’s philosophy and purpose. We would love to see you there!
